Hearing Aids & Real Ear Measurement (REM)
Hearing aids don't have a one-size-fits-all solution
Every person’s hearing needs are unique, which is why proper hearing aid programming is essential for achieving the best possible listening experience. At EarAid™ we perform real-ear measurements to objectively verify how your hearing aids are performing in your ears. This allows our hearing professionals to fine-tune the settings based on your individual hearing profile, ensuring the amplification is accurate, comfortable, and tailored specifically to you.
🎯Personalized to your ears: REM measures the actual sound level reaching your eardrum, helping ensure your hearing aids are programmed specifically for your hearing needs.
👂Your ears affect amplification: Even with identical hearing aids and hearing tests, two people can require different settings because ear shape, ear canal acoustics, and the fit of the device can change how sound is delivered.
📊Objective, not just subjective: Instead of relying only on how loud or comfortable something sounds to you, REM provides an objective measurement of hearing aid output in your ear.
🔧Helps fine tune your hearing aids: REM can identify when a hearing aid is providing too much or too little amplification, allowing your hearing professional to make precise adjustments for clearer, more comfortable hearing.
Real Ear Measurements (REM) provide a precise, personalized way to verify hearing aid performance by measuring sound directly in your ear. They account for individual differences in ear shape and acoustics, allowing our hearing professionals to fine tune amplification for clearer, more accurate, and comfortable hearing.
What do Real Ear Measurements (REM) cost?
Real Ear Measurements are performed at no additional cost. This verification step is performed at our clinic to ensure your hearing aids are accurately programmed and individually optimized for your hearing needs.
Are Real Ear Measurements offered at EarAid Hearing Centre?
Real Ear Measurement (REM) verification is conducted by certified clinicians at EarAid Hearing Centre who possess the knowledge and expertise.
When is REM performed and how much time does it take?
Real Ear Measurements are performed during your hearing aid fitting at our clinic, after the hearing aids have been initially programmed. The measurement itself is quick, comfortable, and non invasive, usually taking about 5–10 minutes. It allows our hearing professional to verify and fine tune the hearing aids based on how they perform in your individual ears.
What to Consider During Your Hearing Aid Fitting
From comfort and programming to speech clarity and feature setup, a personalized fitting ensures your hearing aids work comfortably and effectively for your unique needs.
- Accurate Programming: Your hearing aids should be programmed according to your individual hearing test results.
- Physical Fit: The hearing aids, domes, or earmolds should fit comfortably and securely without causing pressure or irritation.
- Speech Clarity: Your hearing professional should check that speech is clear at different volume levels and in a variety of listening situations.
- Comfort with Loud Sounds: Amplification should make soft sounds audible while keeping louder sounds comfortable and safe.
- Your Feedback: Your personal experience matters. Let your hearing professional know if sounds feel too loud, sharp, muffled, or unnatural so adjustments can be made.
- Real World Testing: Where possible, your fitting should consider the environments you regularly experience, helping ensure the settings work beyond the clinic.
At EarAid™, we are here to help you with your ideal hearing aid solution.
